Media and Communications Officer

Location: Islamabad (30% of time), with travel to Bahawalnagar and Khanewal (50% of time in each district)
This role requires the selected candidate to be based in Islamabad, dedicating 30% of their time to activities at the central office. The remaining 70% will be spent in the field, with equal time allocated to Bahawalnagar and Khanewal districts. The position involves overseeing project communication strategies, developing media content, and ensuring the timely dissemination of project updates across all platforms. Regular field visits will be essential to document success stories, manage media relations, and ensure effective community engagement through project-specific communication initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement communication strategies that promote the objectives and outcomes of the GOAL project, ensuring alignment with donor guidelines and project goals.
- Develop and produce a variety of communication materials, including success stories, case studies, newsletters, reports, press releases, and advocacy content, ensuring they reflect the project’s focus on inclusive education, gender equality, and access to education for marginalized children.
- Manage media engagement by building relationships with local media outlets and stakeholders, facilitating media coverage, and ensuring that the project’s messages are communicated effectively to the public.
- Lead awareness-raising campaigns on key project themes such as inclusive education, girls’ education, disability inclusion, and safe learning environments, ensuring that messages resonate with the target communities and stakeholders.
- Monitor media coverage of the project, track the effectiveness of communication strategies, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure adherence to donor communication requirements, ensuring all materials and messages are in line with the donor’s branding guidelines and communication protocols.
- Engage with stakeholders including government officials, local leaders, and community representatives to ensure the project’s visibility and create positive relationships through communication efforts.
- Support the project manager and other team members in preparing communication reports for donor updates, advocacy purposes, and public relations activities.
- Ensure that all communications are aligned with safeguarding principles, ensuring the protection and dignity of the project’s beneficiaries, particularly children and vulnerable groups.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, development or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in media and communications, with a strong focus on education, social development, or related sectors.
- Proven experience in designing and executing awareness-raising campaigns, including social media and traditional media strategies.
- Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
- Experience in managing media relations, including securing media coverage and handling press inquiries.
- Familiarity with digital media tools and platforms for content creation, distribution, and engagement.
- Understanding of donor communication guidelines and experience ensuring compliance with such requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, engaging stakeholders at all levels.
- Commitment to gender-sensitive communication and understanding of safeguarding practices in media and communications.
